Here are the nominations this morning for the SAG Awards. In past years the Ensemble Award has been a pretty close sign of the Academy Awards. It’s not always the case, but more often than not it’s spot on because the SAG voters are the biggest constituency within the Academy.
The snubs are crazy : no Saoirse Ronan for “Little Women” or anything for that movie. No “Marriage Story” in Best Ensemble. No De Niro for “Irishman.” Nothing for Clint Eastwood’s “Richard Jewell.” Also missing anything for “The Two Popes.”
Scarlett Johansson received two nominations, for “Jojo Rabbit” in supporting and “Marriage Story” in lead.
One big surprise nomination: Taron Egerton as Elton John in “Rocketman.” Good for him!
Other awards already announced did not include Nicole Kidman or Jamie Foxx, each of whom deserves to be included.
The only nomination from network TV is Sterling K. Brown for “This Is Us” from NBC.
