Tina Turner, Queen, Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris Among Grammy Award Lifetime Achievement Honors

Share

The Grammy Awards have announced their Lifetime Achievement Awards honorees.

They include Tina Turner, Queen, Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris, The Meters, the legendary Wrecking Crew drummer Hal Blaine, and the late jazz great Louis Jordan.

Trustee Awards are going to Sire Records founder Seymour Stein, and the late great concert promoter Bill Graham, of Fillmore West fame.

The awards will be presented at a concert next summer which will hopefully be broadcast in the fall. Last year’s show was a huge success.

“This year’s Special Merit Awards recipients are a prestigious group of diverse and influential creators who have crafted or contributed to some of the most distinctive recordings in music history,” said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of the Recording Academy. “These exceptionally inspiring figures are being honored as legendary performers, creative architects, and technical visionaries.”

There are no accidents in life, by the way. Tina Turner is coming with a Broadway show soon. Queen has a Freddie Mercury biopic set for the fall.

Extra special kudos to Seymour Stein, who gave us the Ramones, the Talking Heads, the Pretenders, Madonna, and even Plastic Bertrand!
