The Emmy Awards are over, thank goodness. “Mad Men,” “Modern Family,” and “Downton Abbey” won the series awards. But the biggest surprises were Steve Carell inexplicably not being rewarded for “The Office,” Jon Hamm getting shut out for “Mad Men,” and Laura Linney not scoring for “The Big C.” Blech.

At the Governor’s Ball, our Leah Sydney ran into Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Leah asked Tina how she thought Jane Lynch did as host, and whether or not the “30 Rock” star would ever emcee the show herself.

“God, no!” exclaiming Tina, with Amy nodding in assent. “Jane was funny, quick, and clever. But I’d never host. Oh, that’s way too hard. Too much work!” Fey is also not writing a sequel to her current bestselling book. She’s overwhelmed with a new baby and new “30 Rock” episodes.

Steve Buscemi, star of “Boardwalk Empire,” disagrees. At the HBO party at the Pacific Design Center, Buscemi told Leah: “Tina Fey would be fabulous to  host the Emmy show.  I was sitting with them at the Emmys, I laughed all night with those two.” Now that “BE” has wrapped, Buscemi will direct an episode of “30 Rock” and may be in it, as well. “It’s hard to act and direct.  It’s like walking and chewing gum, I can’t do that either.”
